SHMZ ("Schmooze," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by Birthday Guy, LLC, a Colorado limited liability company with its registered address at 1942 Broadway St., Ste. 314C, Boulder, CO 80302, USA. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.
SHMZ is a private, application-only social club: Invites and events, a members board, and optional matchmaking for members who are single. We do not allow anyone under 18 to create an account, your profile is never publicly listed or searchable, and every match is reviewed by a human matchmaker before either side is shown to the other.
Information you give us
Information collected automatically
We do not collect precise device location (no GPS), biometrics, health data, or government-issued IDs. We also do not request access to your contacts, microphone, or calendar.
Information from others. We receive limited information from Apple about your in-app purchases and subscription status (transaction identifiers, entitlement state, environment, and product purchased) so we can unlock and maintain your subscription; from Stripe about payments you make for Invite seats, event tickets, and other in-app purchases; from Shopify about merch orders you place; and from our email provider when you reply to a message we sent you. We do not receive your payment card details. Those stay with the payment processor.
We do not run open browsing, swipe stacks, or search, and your profile is never publicly indexed or made discoverable outside the app. Other members see you only where you have crossed paths with them: a match our matchmaker pitches you to, the group once your Invite is confirmed, or a member replying to something you posted on the board. What you tell the matchmaker about what you are looking for stays between you and her.
When you and another member are matched, your first name, age, photos, profile details, and chat messages are visible to that specific other member. A board post shows your first name and photo to members in your city, and a confirmed Invite shows your first name and photo to the others at it. If you block someone, the active match ends and they will not be paired with you again.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we never hand your details to another company to market their own things to you. We share the minimum data needed with the following service providers, all of whom are bound by contract to use it only for our purposes:
We may also disclose information to comply with applicable law, court orders, or lawful government requests; to enforce our Terms; to protect the rights, safety, or property of SHMZ, our users, or others; or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case we will require any successor to honor this policy.
We run our own ads, mostly on Instagram and Facebook, to reach people who would fit the club. Two things support that, and neither one sells you to anybody:
We do not sell your information, and we do not let advertisers target you inside SHMZ. There are no third-party ads in the app. Some privacy laws still classify the ad measurement above as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising, so if you would rather we did not do it with your information, email privacy@shmz.app and we will take you out of it. You can also turn off tracking in your device or browser settings.
When you create an account, you provide your mobile phone number and agree to receive text messages from SHMZ about your account, for example when an introduction is ready for you, a reminder before it expires, or an update about an event you reserved. Message frequency varies with your activity; most members receive only a few texts per month. Message and data rates may apply.
You can opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP to any message, or reply HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not affect your account or other notifications. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of any purchase.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, except with our SMS delivery provider solely to send you the messages described above.
SHMZ is operated from the United States. If you access SHMZ from the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, or another region, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum) with our service providers. By using SHMZ from outside the United States you acknowledge this transfer.
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account from within the app:
Apple controls your in-app subscription separately. Deleting your SHMZ account does not cancel your subscription on the App Store. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in iOS Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
We use TLS in transit and encryption at rest for our primary data stores. Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel and is logged. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever experience a breach affecting your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
SHMZ is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Account creation requires a date of birth and the app and our servers both reject sign-ups that do not meet the minimum age. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at privacy@shmz.app and we will delete the account.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; correct it; delete it; receive a portable copy; restrict or object to certain processing; and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@shmz.app. We will verify your request and respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (typically within 30 to 45 days).
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): in the past 12 months we have collected the categories of personal information described in Section 1 for the purposes described in Section 2 and shared it with the categories of recipients described in Section 4. We do not sell personal information. We do share hashed contact information with Meta to measure our own advertising and to build look-alike and suppression audiences, which the CPRA treats as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising; you may opt out at any time by emailing us. You may exercise your rights to know, delete, correct, and limit the use of sensitive personal information by contacting us at the email above. You may also designate an authorized agent.
UK and EEA residents: our legal bases for processing are (i) performance of a contract with you, (ii) our legitimate interests in operating and improving the service and keeping the community safe, (iii) consent where required (for example for certain analytics), and (iv) compliance with legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority, including the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) or the data protection authority in your EU member state.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will notify you in the app or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of SHMZ after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
